"Ho Chi Minh was a great leader because he defeated the United States, the greatest country on Earth."
So said one of my Korean classmates at Saigon South.
I don't know anymore if the U.S.A is the greatest country. I have grown up with a basic pride of country and a belief that democracy and independence are the only effective ways to run a government. Now having spent tone abroad in a communist country, the ideas I once held as gospel truth are shaken. "Commies" aren't evil. They are just like you or me. They have hopes, dreams, fears, love...everything we have. What makes us so special?
Just because we are a super power now does not mean we will always be one. In looking at the hysteria over the upcoming election, I am beginning to think that our country has peaked and is now starting to decline. What happens when the US is no longer a power? Will we decline so far that we have to start over completely?
I don't know...
Those are my philosophical thoughts for today...
